Mixer's Comments
The original 1998 description for the mix:
"I think it would be fun when there was a song where you could hear Freddie and the original creator singing together. And when I say 'original creator' I mean Tim Staffell. So I mixed this track as a duet song. The extra features in this mix are the vocals of Tim Staffell, some pieces of the At The Beeb version "Doin Alright" (including Roger's vocals!) and a new end for this song. I hope you all like it."

The new 2001 description for the mix:
After my Flash's Theme mix it only took 10 days for my next mix. I wanted to create a duet between Freddie and Tim Staffell using the song Doing All Right. I think Sullivan was inspired by this idea (but this is just a guess from me), because he made Too Much Love Will Kill You as a duet mix between Freddie and Brian after mine got published on Bart's old website.
I think I've done a nice job. It's too bad I had to use some old crappy version of Smile's Doing All Right, because the sound isn't too good sometimes.
I've used three versions for this mix: the Queen version from Queen I, the Smile version and the Queen BBC version. I still regret it that I didn't took more time to adjust Roger's part from the BBC session, because now you will clearly hear the stereo differences in the mix. I wish I had corrected that.
The end of this mix is one of my favorites. You will hear all three versions at the same time, fading out, and then a heavy guitar part of the Queen version comes pumping in, followed by the piano outro. I still love it :-)

go back...
