R O N B U C Z K O > > queen ii uncovered
Queen II Uncovered is a big project which I started on August the 18th 2001 and finished
on 3 November 2001. My intentions were to complete it within two weeks, but I simply
couldn't manage to do that.
The idea is simple: remix every track of the Queen II album. The idea came after I made
a mix of The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. I thought that it would be nice to mix the
whole album - now I know better :-)
Calling it "Uncovered" is pretty easy: most of the time I took one channel (right or
left one) and turned that into 'false' stereo. This way many new sounds pop up giving
a few songs a whole new dimension and feeling.
Below you will find a list which all the eleven tracks, including their descriptions.
Specific Track Info
Name: 01 Procession (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 19 August 2001 - 19 August 2001, 3 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 2 min 1 sec
Format: MP3
This one started after I decided to mix the whole album. The whole track has
been mixed and I took the benefits of the stereo effects in the original song
by extending the mix to over two minutes.
The mix has a new intro and outro and I especially like the new outro.
The intro was originally planned to sound like a heart beat and it did work but
this idea got thrown away fast.
Specific Track Info
Name: 02 Father To Son (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 19 August 2001 - 19 August 2001, 5 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 6 min 47 sec
Format: MP3
Although it took me about five hours to remix this track, you will hardly hear
any changes, but it's a great mix!
I've made a new intro which really suits the whole song. After the intro the song
sounds the same, except that I have played around with the right and left channels.
You will notice this in Brian's guitar solos.
The end has been extended using instrumental pieces, combined with vocals. Because
I didn't want this mix to elapse the next mix (White Queen), I had a make a new
outro. You will never expect this so be prepared :-)
Specific Track Info
Name: 03 White Queen (As It Began) (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 20 August 2001 - 20 August 2001, 3 hours
2 September 2001 - 2 September 2001, 1 hour
29 October 2001 - 29 October 2001, 45 minutes
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 4 min 51 sec
Format: MP3
From the first day I never knew what to do with this song. It's so beautiful
that I hardly dared to touch it. Most of the mixing period covers thinking
thinking thinking. On September the 2nd I only had a changed intro and decided
to leave the song as is, but on October 29 I added a few extras making it a nice
mix after all.
Specific Track Info
Name: 04 Some Day One Day (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 2 September 2001 - 2 September 2001, 1.5 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 4 min 23 sec
Format: MP3
The same story as the Father To Son mix. I've played with the channels again and
created a new intro and outro. The outro doesn't fade out this time and it's advised
to listen to it when you have The Loser In The End mix as well. They don't elapse each
other, but it gives the SDOD outro a better feeling.
Specific Track Info
Name: 05 The Loser In The End (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 18 September 2001 - 18 September 2001, 1 hour
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 4 min 27 sec
Format: MP3
This mix starts with an extended drum intro, which you probably expected. The rest
of the mix is almost the same as the album version, except for (ofcourse) the outro.
You should have the Ogre Battle mix, because these two tracks elapse each other.
Specific Track Info
Name: 06 Ogre Battle (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 23 September 2001 - 23 September 2001, 1.5 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 5 min 0 sec
Format: MP3
As said in the previous description, this mix elapses track five. This mix is,
in my opinion, in a slightly different style than the other mixes, but it still
sounds ok. It has some nice extras, including a new intro and outro and some
extended parts during the song. The end is like it should be or like it was when
it was still a stand alone song during the recording sessions in 1973 / 1974.
Specific Track Info
Name: 07 The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 18 August 2001 - 18 August 2001, 5 hours
23 September 2001 - 23 September 2001, 0.5 hour
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 3 min 13 sec
Format: MP3
This is the mix that gave me the idea to mix the whole album. I'm still wondering
what gave me this crazy idea.
The TFFMS mix sounds very new and fresh. I originally made a short new intro but it ended
up being a long fading in intro which sounds better. The other intro is lost.
The rest of the song features a mix between the right and left channels giving the song
a new feeling.
Like the intro I also made a few outros, but the final outro was made when I finished
the Nevermore mix.
Specific Track Info
Name: 08 Nevermore (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 23 September 2001 - 23 September 2001, 1.25 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 1 min 42 sec
Format: MP3
Nevermore starts with an extended piano intro and some beautiful vocals and continues
with the normal song. The end has slightly been changed but not heavily.
Although it's a short mix it's one of my favorites.
Specific Track Info
Name: 09 The March Of The Black Queen (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 18 October 2001 - 18 October 2001, 1 hour
28 October 2001 - 28 October 2001, 2.5 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 7 min 6 sec
Format: MP3
A lot of echoes have been used in this mix. Just listen to it to hear the extra
dimensions. The extra added intro to this mix was made for fun, but I forgot to
remove it and it actually sounds pretty nice.
This mix also includes the part of what was thought to be the intro of Funny How Love
Is, but it (apparantly) isn't. This small part has been mixed as well.
You must have the next mix, track 10, as well, because these two mixes elapse each
other
Specific Track Info
Name: 10 Funny How Love Is (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 29 October 2001 - 29 October 2001, 1.5 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 4 min 10 sec
Format: MP3
This song has been extended to over four minutes, but you won't hear anything
new except for the new (weird) intro and outro.
You better have The March Of The Black Queen mix as well, since they run into
each other and it sounds pretty good!
Specific Track Info
Name: 11 Seven Seas Of Rhye (Uncovered Mix)
Mixing period: 3 November 2001 - 3 November 2001, 2 hours
Release date: 7 November 2001
Length: 3 min 28 sec
Format: MP3
Making this mix was pretty hard, because I already mixed this track a few months
earlier.
This version doesn't sound at all like the Abandoned Mix. It also has hardly been
mixed: I wanted to end this project very fast and didn't feel very much to mix
for another few days. Therefore it has hardly been changed. It only has (what
a surprise) a new intro and outro and I've added a few extras during the song,
but nothing spectacular.
This is it! I hope most people like it or at least like the idea to mix a whole
album. It took me quite some time, especially since I had so many other things
to do (work, school, running three websites, ...), but I enjoyed doing it most
of the time.
go back...
